The would-be suicide bomber was planning to detonate a suicide belt bomb near Red Square, a plan that was foiled when her wireless carrier sent her an SMS while she was still at a safe house, setting off the bomb and killing her. The message reportedly wished her a Happy New Years, according to the report, which sourced the info from security forces in Russia. Cell phones are often used as makeshift detonators by terrorist and insurgent groups.

ETA: As I said on Facebook, something I am working on right now is consciously choosing gentleness and peacefulness in thoughts and speech. (Those of you who know me are probably giggling at this.) It started after Undercover Nun retweeted something about abstaining from violent thoughts and words as a Lenten discipline, and it was right around the time Rep. Giffords was shot, and I said, “why wait for Lent? Be the change, and all that stuff.”

Anyway, this story challenged my discipline.
