God bless The Awl for deconstructing Clan of the Cave Bear, which allows us to remember when our mother gave us a copy for Easter because our mother clearly did not know what kind of book it was (the dirty kind). We were ten.

I read almost the entire series that was available when I was in the early part of high school. *cough* 
It’s always fun to walk into a friend’s house and see these sitting on their shelves.
