Is there one close enough to walk? And how does one do this?

Theoretically, I expect one walks into the Kmart, heads for the layaway counter, and says, “I would like to pay off some layaway accounts for people.” I would probably additionally specify a preference for accounts with items for children, or accounts that have had late payments made and are in danger of being lost for that reason.

The article also mentions that paying off the account except for a few cents lets the account stay in the system so the person can come pick up their items, so I’d try to pay it off to within a quarter or so.

But I believe the closest Kmarts to us require cars to get to.
