Cheddar, Beer, and Mustard Pull-Apart Bread -

We just made this. It’s a little bit of work but OH MY GOD I AM MAKING THIS ALL THE TIME NOW.

He looks like he is thinking deep cat thoughts.

Yes, he was trying to decide how he was going to annoy me next, since I had taken everything off the nightstand that he could possibly throw to the floor.

Asshole.

“Mitchell is trying to tackle a disaster in her home state. And she is not alone. Motivated in large part by their religious traditions of protecting the vulnerable and serving “the least of these,” as Jesus instructed his followers to do in the Gospel of Matthew, World Relief and other Christian agencies like the Salvation Army are stepping up efforts and working with law enforcement to stem the flow of human trafficking, which includes sex trafficking and labor trafficking. “Jesus didn’t just go around telling people about himself. He also healed the blind and healed the brokenhearted, he freed captives, and I think that it would be ridiculous to walk up to someone who is hurting and tell them, ‘Let me tell you about the Gospel,’ and then walk away while they’re still hurting,” Mitchell says.” — The new Christian abolition movement – CNN Belief Blog - CNN.com Blogs

I agree with you. But to be fair, Twitter has received its fair share of hate over the years, and there’s still the “who cares what you had for breakfast?!” crowd.

Certainly it does, but a lot of that comes from people who are not themselves avid social media users. A lot of the Pinterest hate comes from people who are ALL ABOUT FB, Tumblr, Twitter… but think Pinterest is stupid. It’s not anti-social media snobbery; it’s sexism.

“I have to think deeper about social networks than most people do: I spend a good portion of my day job thinking about how the social web fits in with the work of reporting and disseminating the news. Snarking about the wedding dresses and cooking wares and artfully messy French-braids that populate Pinterest ignores the fact that these users are finding utility in how that site lets them share that content. Maybe it’s not the best showcase for your 2,000 word investigative piece on mortgage rates among 20-somethings. But for your slideshow of couples tying the knot at city hall, or collection of campaign memorabilia, it’s perfect.” —

I can’t help but think that a lot of the Pinterest hate is simply because it’s used primarily by women, and feminine = frivolous and therefore inherently worthy of mockery.

“There was another common thread: Four of the nine dead were either gay or perceived as such by other kids, and were reportedly bullied. The tragedies come at a national moment when bullying is on everyone’s lips, and a devastating number of gay teens across the country are in the news for killing themselves. Suicide rates among gay and lesbian kids are frighteningly high, with attempt rates four times that of their straight counterparts; studies show that one-third of all gay youth have attempted suicide at some point (versus 13 percent of hetero kids), and that internalized homophobia contributes to suicide risk.

Against this supercharged backdrop, the Anoka-Hennepin school district finds itself in the spotlight not only for the sheer number of suicides but because it is accused of having contributed to the death toll by cultivating an extreme anti-gay climate. “LGBTQ students don’t feel safe at school,” says Anoka Middle School for the Arts teacher Jefferson Fietek, using the acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning. “They’re made to feel ashamed of who they are. They’re bullied. And there’s no one to stand up for them, because teachers are afraid of being fired.” —

That anger you’re feeling? Do something with it. Do something about this.

“Chancer doesn’t know that Iyal is cognitively impaired. What he knows is that Iyal is his boy. Chancer loves Iyal in a perfect way, with an unconditional love beyond what even the family can offer him. Chancer never feels disappointed in Iyal or embarrassed by Iyal. Beyond cognitive ability or disability, beyond predictions of a bright future or a dismal one, on a field of grass and hard-packed dirt, between the playground and the baseball diamond, you can see them sometimes, the two of them, running, laughing their heads off, sharing a moment of enormous happiness, just a boy and his dog.” —
